Self-harm

Self-harm is when you deliberately injure or hurt yourself as a way of dealing with very difficult feelings, painful memories or overwhelming situations and experiences.

There are lots of different forms of self-harming. Some people use the same one all the time, other people hurt themselves in different ways at different times. You can find out more about why people self-harm and how to get support if you feel like you might want to hurt yourself by visiting the YoungMinds website.

If you live in County Durham or Darlington you can also access the Young People’s Self Harm Prevention & Counselling service.
