Stronger Families in County Durham training

Stronger Families is a way of working with County Durham families who’d like support with any problems or difficulties they may be having. The following training courses are free to Lead Professionals from Durham County Council and our partner services working with families in County Durham.

An Introduction to the Durham Way The Durham Way Event introduces the vision and principles of ‘Thinking Family’. The event aims to build positive relationships between services and promote integrated working practices. Two 2.5 hour virtual sessions via Microsoft Teams 2026 dates to be confirmed. Understanding Teenagers Training Training will provide practitioners with an increased knowledge of the stages of adolescence. A 3 hour virtual sessions via Microsoft Teams

Understanding Teenagers booking form
Working with Dads and Male Carers To provide front line staff and managers with the confidence, knowledge and skills to engage with and work effectively with dads and male carers. A 3 hour session delivered either face-to-face or virtually via Microsoft Teams 2026 dates to be confirmed. Working with Dads and Male Carers booking form
Engaging Dads in Schools (school staff only) This course will help change the culture of parental engagement with dads males carers and understand why they are important in a child’s life and education. A 2 hour face-to-face session 2026 dates to be confirmed. Engaging Dads in Schools booking form
Reducing Parental Conflict This training will provide practitioners with an increased ability to recognise parental conflict, to understand the causes of conflict and provide practical tools and resources to enable practitioners to support families they are working with. A 1 day training delivered either face-to-face or virtually via Microsoft Teams

Loss and Bereavement This training provides practitioners with an increased knowledge of the different stages of grief and how they can affect a person. A 3 hour face-to-face session

Hidden Sentence Awareness This training gives practitioners an insight into the specific issues experienced by children and families of prisoners and the resources available to help support families. Delivered by NEPACS, A 2.5 hour session delivered either face-to-face or virtually via Zoom.

Care Leaver Providing practitioners with an awareness of the rights and entitlements of care leavers as well as exploring what it means to be a care leaver and potential issues experienced. Parental Rights Awareness Providing practitioners with knowledge of the legalities of parental rights, the challenges and barriers prisoners or estranged parents face in exercising their parental rights and remaining an active parent. Delivered by NEPACS. A 3 hour virtual session via Zoom

Parental Rights Awareness booking form
Reducing Parental Conflict This course is for practitioners working with children, young people or families and would like to have a basic knowledge of parental conflict. Designed to raise awareness of what is meant by ‘parental conflict’, recognise the differences between parental conflict and domestic abuse, understand the impact that conflict has on children and young people and to be able to recognise positive ways of communicating. Takes approximately 1 hour to complete. Self guided. Anytime You must be registered in our Durham Safeguarding Children Partnership Course Centre, and then search for  the course name.
