Safeguarding & Protecting Disabled Children Workshop

This safeguarding course is delivered by Barnardo’s giving specific focus on the issues and challenges faced in relation to the abuse of disabled children and young people and our roles and responsibilities to keep them safe from harm.

Research shows that children with disabilities are at a significantly greater risk of physical, sexual, emotional abuse and neglect than non-disabled children.

Who is it for?

This half day course is for staff from any agency that are involved in delivering services to families where there is a child with a disability, or to disabled children and young people in the community.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the session attendees will:

  • Understand the specific area of vulnerability for children with disabilities
  • Recognise barriers to safeguarding created by attitudes and assumptions about disability and the families that care for disabled children
  • Understand the need for robust links between safeguarding professionals and those working with disabled children and their families.

The completion of this training will support practitioners to evidence their continual professional development.

A certificate of attendance will be auto-generated and received on completion of the evaluation form. Therefore it is vital that you complete this as this is the only method you will receive a certificate of attendance.
